Inter Miami is a professional soccer club from the USA that has been competing in Major League Soccer since 2020. Located in Miami, Florida, it was established in January 2018.

The club’s history began in 2012 with MLS Commissioner Don Garber’s intention to create a new franchise in Miami, as the previous one had been disbanded. When David Beckham, who had the option to buy an expansion team for 25 million dollars, ended his playing career, the League immediately made such an offer.

By the end of 2013, Major League Soccer announced him as the potential owner of the new Miami team. Active negotiations with the celebrities’ representatives began in December of the same year. In February 2014, the league announced that the former soccer player would lead the franchise after addressing investment issues and stadium construction.

Four years later (in January 2018), the 25th “Miami” franchise was transferred to the “Miami Beckham United” group, including David Beckham, Jorge, Jose Mas, Marcelo Claure, and Masayoshi Son. Beckham became the key figure.

The club’s full name, Internacional de Futbol Miami, was confirmed for it in September 2018 and indicated on the logo. The unofficial name, “Inter Miami,” is a shortened version commonly used.

Meaning and History

The franchise’s logo appeared alongside its name. It’s designed in the style of classic Art Deco traditions: sharp and straight lines, a designer flair, and acute angles. It includes elements of an additional logo: a chevron for uniforms and stripes for caps.

The primary image of the emblem is two large herons standing back to back. One leg of each bird is straightened, and the other is crossed, forming an “M.” It depicts the team’s name – an uppercase letter with serifs. Between the herons, there’s a rising sun with seven-pointed triangular rays. Their number refers to Beckham’s number when he participated in soccer matches. Above them is the inscription “MIAMI”.

What is Inter Miami?

Inter Miami is a professional soccer team from Miami that was founded in 2018. It is an MLS member and will join in 2020 to represent the Eastern Conference. The team has three owners, one of whom is the club’s president: David Beckham, Jorge, and Jose Mas.

All central elements are placed on a chevron, surrounded by a dark medium-thickness band, where the club’s full name is written in uppercase. The designation of the year 2020 in Roman numerals – MMXX – is also present. This refers to the debut time of the franchise’s first season and the city’s location. The team’s primary colors are coal-black, white, and powder pink, as it’s believed that the emblem depicts not herons but flamingos.

Font and Colors

Inter Miami C.F. symbol

The graphic symbol of Inter Miami contains several geometric figures forming a complete composition. Two flamingos are located inside a rectangular shield with a sharp base. The heraldic element is superimposed on a black circle with a pink outline, slightly protruding beyond the edges. The club’s full name is written inside a wide ring serving as a frame.

Precision geometry is also maintained in other details. The legs of the birds are a combination of straight and broken lines forming angles and quadrilaterals. The silhouettes of the flamingos are symmetrical, as is the stylized sun, split vertically into two equal parts.

The long inscription denoting the sports organization’s status is executed in a simple italic font with serifs. The city name also lacks serifs, but the letters in “MIAMI” are not as standardized as in “CLUB INTERNACIONAL DE FUTBOL.” At least, the creators initially designed the letter “A” using a broken line consisting of two segments instead of a straight horizontal stroke.

The inscriptions in the ring frame and both birds are white. The other details, including the contours, two four-pointed stars, the sun, the word “MIAMI,” and the flamingo legs, are pink (#F7B5CD). This color combination is intentional, as they are clearly visible on the black background (#231F20).
