RiversEdge Amphitheater was created as part of Hamilton, Ohio’s redevelopment after the closure of Mercy Hospital in 2006. The hospital had served the city for 109 years, from 1892 to 2001, and its abandoned site became a large brownfield area in the center of Hamilton. City officials decided to transform the former hospital location into a public park and outdoor concert space.
Construction of RiversEdge Amphitheater and the surrounding area was completed in September 2013. The venue included a covered stage, open green spaces, and a viewing area designed for community events, with a capacity of around 3,000 people. From its first seasons, RiversEdge became known for free summer concerts supported by the city, local sponsors, volunteers, and Hamilton Parks Conservancy. The venue followed a different model from larger commercial spaces such as Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, which opened in 1984 and operates as a ticketed concert facility with more than 20,000 seats.
Over time, RiversEdge developed a local festival program. The Big River Get Down festival became an annual event starting in 2016, featuring performers such as Tyler Childers, The Revivalists, and The Record Company. The amphitheater also became a location for Hamilton’s Fourth of July celebrations with live music and fireworks.
In 2017, the surrounding area expanded after the Marcum family donated $3.5 million through the Hamilton Community Foundation to create Marcum Park. The project added public spaces, art installations, walking areas, and connections to local cycling routes. The venue was renamed RiversEdge Amphitheater at Marcum Park. In 2018, the American Planning Association included the location in its Great Places in America list, recognizing the redevelopment of the former hospital site.

RiversEdge is a summer concert venue in the city of Hamilton. Its history is connected to music and water; its logo reflects these two core ideas.
On the left is a symbol composed of blue arcs, resembling waves spreading across water or sound radiating from a stage toward the audience. In the center of these arcs is a circle containing the letters “RE,” an abbreviation of the name. The symbol conveys the atmosphere of concerts held there: music, open skies, and proximity to the river that defines the venue’s character.
The venue’s name is written in a simple, elongated sans-serif font with thin gray letters. Within the word “RiversEdge,” the letter sizes alternate: “R” and “E” are slightly taller than the others, making the text appear interesting and somewhat unconventional. There is generous spacing between letters, creating a feeling of lightness and freshness suited for an outdoor concert venue.
The blue symbol references the water of the Miami River near the venue. The gray text color was chosen for balance, ensuring the logo appeared pleasant without overwhelming accents.
As a result, the brand created a simple, airy logo that reflects the venue’s character as an informal space where people enjoy music by the riverside without constraints or formality.
