Kansas State Wildcats: Brand overview
The history of the Kansas State Wildcats athletic teams began in 1863 with the founding of Kansas State Agricultural College, now known as Kansas State University. The first football team appeared in the 1890s, and in 1915, the university officially chose the wildcat as its mascot, inspired by a football coach’s description of his players’ spirit. Purple became the official team color.
In 1912, the university became one of the founders of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which later became part of the Big 12 Conference.
