The logo was created before the university teams joined the Peach Belt Conference. The design is set in a nighttime style: a black circle within the letter “O” is stylized as a hollow, from which the owl named Scrappy peers.

The choice of the totem is based on an old Indian legend about a duel between two warriors. One wore owl wings, and the other had eagle claws. Ultimately, the warrior with owl wings emerged victorious and was named “Owl.” Interestingly, in nature, owls and eagles are indeed rivals and often clash with one another.

The golden outline and elegantly detailed depiction of the predator add a sense of nobility to the emblem. The logo conveys qualities such as attentiveness, suddenness, and wisdom. The symbol highlights the team’s ability to patiently wait for the right moment to deliver a precise and decisive blow, leading to victory.

The emblem was updated after a four-year reclassification process associated with the transition to the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. This event coincided with the successful 2012 season when the team advanced to the Atlantic Sun Championship. The changes reflect the level of professionalism and skill growth of the university teams, necessitating the creation of a more presentable logo.

The emblem features a monogram formed from the initials of Kennesaw State University’s athletic team. Following the general trend of sports teams after the 2000s, the Owls abandoned using a totem image and adopted a minimalist approach.

The emblem’s structure is based on the layering of symbols, which creates a sense of unity and cohesion. The interweaving of the glyphs reflects the team’s spirit, founded on mutual support, protection, and dedication to shared goals.

The letters’ golden color emphasizes status and significant achievements, while the black outline adds elements of stability and confident preservation of established positions.
