The Royal Canin logo reflects the company’s scientific approach to animal nutrition, built upon precise research and practical experience. The brand is recognized for understanding pets’ needs and offering products that enhance their lives.

Royal Canin: Brand overview

The Royal Canin brand was established in 1967 in the French town of Puy-en-Velay by veterinarian Jean Cathary. During consultations, he observed how nutrition affects skin and coat conditions. Cathary started making dry food himself in his garage using an oven and simple ingredients, creating the first recipe named “yellow soup.”

A year later, the Royal Canin company was founded, becoming the first in France to produce dry food using extrusion technology adopted from the USA. Initially offered to dog breeders, the products gained recognition in Europe. In the 1970s, the company established factories in Aimargues and Cambrai, a research center in Brittany, and began selling its products in eight European countries.

The 1980s saw the introduction of specialized foods for cats and large-breed puppies, catering to their specific needs. A significant milestone was reached in 1999 with the introduction of the first food specifically formulated for Persian cats. Since 2001, the brand has been owned by the Mars Corporation, which has invested in new developments and driven production growth.

Today, Royal Canin produces around 260 formulas across 16 factories worldwide, following the founder’s original principle of supporting animal health through proper nutrition.

Royal Canin Logo

The identity of the Royal Canin brand is tied to caring for animals. When developing the logo, the designers drew on heraldic symbols and chose a crown shape. It emphasized high quality and an approach to pets based on care, respect, and responsibility.

The brand symbol is a stylized crown. Its image is composed of identical rounded elements arranged in two neat rows along an arc. Beneath the dots are two smooth lines, one slightly larger than the other. The dots in the crown design resemble the granules included in Royal Canin products, visually linking the company’s products and its core values.

The company name is set below the symbol in a typeface with soft, rounded forms. A simple, friendly sans-serif font is used. The text’s style emphasizes professionalism, openness, and the company’s attentive attitude toward its customers and their pets.

The color is red. It is associated with energy, vitality, and a commitment to health. All elements of the identity are combined into a harmonious visual that unites a scientific approach, a love of animals, and high-quality work across all aspects.
