Wellness: Brand overview

The history of Wellness Pet Company began in 1873 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, with the A. Hubbard & Sons bakery, which produced sea biscuits. In 1926, it evolved into Old Mother Hubbard, baking dog biscuits. In the 1960s, new owner Jim Scott Sr. transitioned the products entirely to natural ingredients.

In 1997, Jim Scott Jr. launched the Wellness brand, introducing natural pet food lines initially for dogs and later for cats. In 2008, the company was acquired by Berwind Corporation and merged with Eagle Pack to form WellPet LLC. Later, the company also acquired the brands Sojos and Whimzees.

Since 2020, the new owner has been the investment firm Clearlake Capital Group. In 2021, the brand was renamed Wellness Pet Company. Today, the company produces products under Wellness, WHIMZEES, Old Mother Hubbard, Sojos, and Good Dog by Wellness brands at three factories in the United States and the Netherlands.

Today

Wellness Logo

The current Wellness logo conveys a caring attitude toward pets and a respectful attitude toward nature. It unites light and shadow, sun and moon, into a single symbol. The company specializes in products for healthy animal nutrition, and the new mark reflects its mission.

The emblem uses a vertical structure. A semicircle with an image of the sun and the moon is placed at the top, and the name Wellness Pet Company is placed below. The interior of the semicircle is divided into sections styled as rays. The center of the composition is a face divided into light and dark sides, expressing the transition from day to night. The visual highlights the company’s care for pets around the clock, since they always need attention.

The name is presented on two levels. The upper level features the word “Wellness” in the Friz Quadrata typeface, with small, neat serifs. The letters look solid, with balanced proportions and proper spacing. The line “Pet Company” appears below, indicating the company’s profile and providing a clear structure.

The main and only color is a deep purple. It reinforces the impression of a professional brand and reflects a serious approach to product quality and pet nutrition. Purple is associated with reliability, responsibility, and well-being, reflecting the company’s character.

The style of the Wellness symbol is concise and meaningful. It conveys corporate clarity and a deep figurative message, expressing a concept of harmonious interaction with nature and care for pets throughout their lives.
