Bluebird Films: Brand overview

Bluebird Films Ltd was registered in London on January 7, 2004, at 16 St James Street in Hammersmith. The British-American company worked in adult-content production. In 2005, it was acquired by British businessman Paul Baxendale-Walker, known in the industry as Paul Chaplin.

Baxendale-Walker had a legal background. He graduated from Hertford College, Oxford, specialized in tax law at Lincoln’s Inn, worked at major law firms, and opened his own Mayfair practice in 1994. In 2005, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal suspended him for three years over a conflict of interest linked to tax schemes. The Court of Appeal upheld the ruling in 2007, and he was struck off the roll on January 11, 2007.

At Bluebird Productions, Baxendale-Walker acted as financier, director, and performer. The company became associated with genre parodies and grotesque comedy, including Katwoman, a parody of Batman. In 2012, he sold the company for an estimated $20 million and later bought Loaded magazine through MPRO.

After the ownership change, Nicholas Steele took over management. He had previously directed for Adam & Eve and founded Nicholas Steele Productions. Bluebird Films shifted toward HD production as the industry moved from DVD to digital platforms, with shoots in London, Los Angeles, and Prague. Its catalog grew past 300 titles, with about $14 million invested. Competitors included Marc Dorcel and Digital Playground. Bluebird Films Ltd was dissolved in the UK on March 16, 2021, while the brand’s activity moved mainly to Las Vegas, Nevada.
