Petrofac: Brand overview

Established in 1981 under the leadership of Ayman Asfari and Maroun Semaan, Petrofac has grown into a leading international oil and gas services provider. With the word “Petroleum Facilities” embedded in its name, the company has become the epitome of innovation and success in the energy sector. Based in London, Petrofac is making an impact on the oil and gas industry, serving clients in over 30 countries.

In its early years, Petrofac specialized in the construction and conservation of oil and gas facilities in the Middle East. Over time, the company’s aspirations expanded, and it began working in Europe, Africa, and Asia, strengthening its global position in the industry.

In the 2000s, Petrofac rapidly gained momentum and became one of the leading oil and gas service companies in the world. Its catalog of services, including engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance (EPCM), project management, training, and consulting, has positioned the company as an industry leader.

Petrofac has spearheaded some of the most innovative and ambitious oil and gas projects in the world, such as the development of the Forties field in the North Sea, the construction of the Sakhalin-2 LNG plant in Russia, and the expansion of gas processing capacity at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). These projects have been game changers for the industry and have expanded the horizons of what is achievable.

Despite recent challenges, such as falling oil prices and the ongoing corruption investigation in the UK, Petrofac continues to hold a significant position in the global oil and gas services industry.

The founding of Petrofac in 1981 marked the birth of a company destined to become a key player in the energy sector.

By 2000, Petrofac entered the African market, introducing its operations and services to a new audience.

A significant turning point came in 2007 when Petrofac went public, attracting investment and opening a new chapter in its journey.

In 2015, Petrofac was awarded a $20 billion contract to build the Sakhalin II LNG plant in Russia, a milestone in the company’s annals.

In 2021, Petrofac was fined £77 million for alleged bribery in Iraq, causing upheaval around the world.

Petrofac Logo

The Petrofac logo is a simple inscription – smooth, straight, in sans-serif font. The font is mostly lowercase, except for the first letter of the name, which is capitalized in accordance with grammatical rules. The calm design of the text inspires confidence in the high capabilities and reliability of the company. All glyphs have a rounded shape, so cleanly trimmed ends look acceptable and harmonious. On the right side, there is a brown drop-shaped icon with a white letter “P” in the middle. Both elements are outlined with a thin black line.

The brown blob hints that the company is related to liquids, possibly oil. The white “P” in the center of the blob seems to say, “Yes, that’s us, Petrofac, in the world of liquids.” The thin black line around the text and the droplet is a border that neatly ties everything together, like the outline of a drawing, to make it stand out.
