Originating in Japan, Plextor Inc. was an electronics company renowned for its Plextor line of computer storage devices and other electronic products. Established in 1989, it functioned as a subsidiary of the Japanese corporation Shinano Kenshi. The Plextor brand gained prominence initially by producing optical disc drives, starting with CD-ROM drives.

Over time, Plextor expanded its product portfolio to include computer accessories such as DVD burners, Blu-ray drives, flash memory, and hard drives. Plextor positioned itself as a high-end brand emphasizing superior performance and quality.

The company’s products enjoyed global recognition, particularly its optical disc drives, establishing Plextor as a reputable brand in international markets. Despite its international presence, Plextor kept its headquarters in Tokyo and its primary production facilities in Japan.

In 2010, Plextor Inc granted Lite-On Technology, a Taiwanese company, a license to use the Plextor brand on future products. Despite this change, Plextor Inc remained an independent entity under Shinano Kenshi Corporation.

Today, Plextor Inc has refocused on more specialized products. Under the brand names PLEXLOGGER and PLEXTALK, it markets unique offerings like audio loggers and talking pens, continuing its legacy of innovation in the electronics market.
