Originating in Japan, Plextor Inc was an electronics company renowned for its Plextor brand of computer storage devices and various electronic products. Established in 1989, it functioned as a subsidiary of the Japanese corporation Shinano Kenshi. The Plextor brand gained prominence initially with the production of optical disc drives, starting with CD-ROM drives.

Over time, Plextor expanded its product portfolio to encompass various computer accessories, including DVD burners, Blu-ray drives, flash memory, and hard drives. Plextor positioned itself as a high-end brand emphasizing delivering superior performance and quality products.

The company’s products enjoyed global recognition, particularly for its optical disc drives, establishing Plextor as a reputable brand in the international market. Despite its international presence, Plextor’s headquarters remained in Tokyo, with the primary production facilities being based in Japan.

In 2010, a significant shift occurred when Plextor Inc granted the license for the Plextor brand to Lite-On Technology, a Taiwanese company, for their future products. Despite this change, Plextor Inc maintained its independent operations as a separate entity under the Shinano Kenshi Corporation.

Currently, Plextor Inc has refocused its attention on more specialized products. Under the brand names PLEXLOGGER and PLEXTALK, it markets unique offerings like audio loggers and talking pens, continuing its legacy of innovation in the electronics market.
