1985 – 2008
The mid-1980s saw the introduction of a new logo for the University of South Alabama’s sports teams, which they used until 2008. The main element was a realistically depicted jaguar with an aggressive look and bright yellow-golden coloring.
The animal is shown in motion, stretched forward and tense, expressing aggression and displeasure. The fur is bright yellow with black spots. The jaguar’s head faces the viewer, its mouth open to reveal sharp teeth that emphasize the team’s fierce attitude.
To the right of the figure is a maroon square with a neatly placed monogram “USA.” The white serif letters reflect the team’s connection to the university’s academic traditions. A thin blue border frames the square.
The word “Jaguars,” set in an elegant maroon italic font, completes the emblem. The matching text and square create a unified, harmonious look.
2008 – today
The new South Alabama Jaguars logo appeared in 2008. It features a stylized jaguar head in white, blue, and red, replacing the previous realistic image.
The head is simplified, focusing on an aggressive open mouth and prominent fangs. Smooth, fluid contour lines and blue detailing contrast with the main white tone, emphasizing the predator’s silhouette. To the left of the design, a curved red stroke adds energy and tension to the jaguar’s figure.
Below the symbol, the university’s name is arranged in two levels. The upper line, “South Alabama,” is written in an italic sports-style font, highlighting the team’s active spirit. The word “South” is in red, while the rest is in blue. Below it, “Jaguars” appears in bold, bright red capital letters, emphasizing the team’s name.
