unix Logos and Brands
The family of operating systems that originated in Bell Labs in 1969 defines the content of the “Unix” section. Created by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie, UNIX spawned a legacy that includes BSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and indirectly Linux and macOS. The logos in this section represent operating systems and companies that build server infrastructure, scientific computing, and telecommunications platforms on Unix-like kernels. IBM, Oracle (Sun Microsystems), Hewlett-Packard, and The Open Group, which owns the UNIX trademark, represent an ecosystem where the ideology of open source, modularity, and multi-user architecture has defined the development of computing for half a century.
