Initially, it was a subsidiary of the Fuji Photo Film Company. It gained popularity for its role in producing recordable media such as CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and magnetic tapes.

In addition to these well-known offerings, Verbatim also manufactures various digital storage products. This includes external hard drives, USB flash drives, memory cards, and solid-state drives. The brand name ‘Verbatim’ became synonymous with high-quality optical media during the height of the CD/DVD era and was a common supplier to media manufacturers.

In 2017, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings purchased Verbatim. Despite the acquisition, Verbatim continues to function under its original name and maintains its established reputation within the industry.
