Baruch Business Brigades: Brand overview
In 2008, Baruch Business Brigades was founded at Baruch College, a division of the City University of New York. Students from the Zicklin School of Business formed the organization to assist actual businesses and non-profits in implementing their theoretical knowledge.
The initiative started as a tiny student club. The founders recognized the potential of fusing academic expertise with real-world applications, which could benefit the neighborhood and the students.
During its first year of operation, the group concentrated on local initiatives in the Lower Manhattan region. Student volunteers offered small businesses free accounting, marketing, and management consultations.
The organization’s operations had grown greatly by 2010. The group started working with bigger nonprofits, providing them with financial management and strategic planning advice.
2011 was the organization’s first significant success. This initiative garnered notice on a citywide scale, drawing the interest of nearby media outlets and possible collaborators.
The organization initiated its inaugural mentorship program in 2012. Student consultants began working alongside seasoned business experts who shared their skills and experience.
The organization’s international expansion took place in 2013. On its inaugural mission abroad, a group of students was sent to Latin America to assist local business owners.
The group’s first donation came from the local business community in 2014. Because of this funding, the organization grew and provided services to many clients.
In 2015, a business incubation program for student businesses was introduced. Thanks to this project, students at Baruch College gained hands-on experience starting and growing their businesses.
The group started working with several major firms in 2016. Because of these connections, students can now access additional options, such as mentorship programs and internships.
2017 was a year of increased activity for the organization’s range of operations. The organization began teaching young people from low-income neighborhoods in New York City master classes and workshops on financial literacy.
The group threw a sizable conference in 2018 to commemorate its tenth anniversary, inviting past members, partners, and clients to attend. This occasion emphasized the organization’s vital role in fostering student entrepreneurship and assisting the neighborhood’s business community.
A brand-new digital marketing campaign was launched in 2019. Student volunteers began assisting small businesses with website construction, social media management, and creating and optimizing their online presence.
Significant adjustments were made to the group’s operations in 2020. In response to changing circumstances, the organization quickly moved to online workshops and virtual consultations, which enabled it to continue operations and grow its clientele outside New York City.
Partnerships with other colleges in Europe and Asia were established in 2021 to broaden its portfolio of international projects. This gave students more chances to take part in international business endeavors.
In 2022, a new initiative to promote sustainable business was introduced. The group started offering advice to companies on how to adopt greener and more productive procedures.
A sizable contribution from a nearby foundation in 2023 allowed the organization to greatly expand its operations. In addition to serving more clients, the group started several new instructional programs.
The organization has consistently modified its fundamental objective of offering free business consultation and support to meet the evolving requirements of students and the community.
Additionally, the group has kept up the development of its business incubator program, which is now assisting a growing number of student-run businesses. Numerous initiatives started under this program have been quite successful, which has enhanced the organization’s standing.
Meaning and History
What is Baruch Business Brigades?
This student group at Baruch College helps bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world business challenges. It consists of driven students who provide consulting services to startups, non-profit organizations, and small businesses. The group members apply their academic knowledge in practice, tackling real tasks such as financial analysis and developing marketing strategies. By working in teams and engaging with clients, students develop project management skills and professional abilities, making participation in the organization excellent preparation for their future careers.
2008 – today
The designers created a symbolic logo for Baruch Business Brigades, reflecting the organization’s mission—to share knowledge about proper business practices and effective financial management. These ideas are embodied in a segmented image emphasizing a multi-faceted approach to educational work.
The main element of the emblem is a stylized globe composed of a grid of parallels and meridians. The planet is not merely decorative—it hints at the organization’s international activity, as BBB has long expanded beyond a single country, conducting successful consultations in Panama and Honduras. The globe symbolizes global collaboration, which is the core purpose of this student initiative.
Interestingly, the globe is not solid—three paired quadrilaterals have separated. They are colored in different shades (turquoise, blue, and light blue), hinting at the variety of services Baruch Business Brigades offers. These elements represent the diverse aspects of the organization’s work, which allows for honing teamwork skills, mastering the nuances of financial consulting, and learning from experienced mentors.
Opposite the stylized globe is the brand name, split into three lines aligned to the left. Each word is colored to match one of the three segments of the globe:
- “BARUCH” – in turquoise;
- “BUSINESS” – in blue;
- “BRIGADES” – in light blue.
The logo’s creators intentionally used a calming palette to inspire trust and create a business-like atmosphere associated with BBB’s field of work. The font was chosen with the same principle in mind. The uppercase bold sans-serif letters look strict and formal, making the wordmark resemble the heading of an official document. Everything is perfectly balanced here: the proportions of the glyphs, the stroke thickness, the letter spacing, and the line spacing.
Thus, the logo has a dual nature. While the stylized globe conveys ideas of movement, interaction, and discovering new opportunities, the strict lettering underscores the organization’s professionalism, which sets high standards for itself and others.
