What is Killester College?

The school logo is designed in an antique style. Its central element is a shield featuring figures commemorating the Brigidine Sisters, the school’s founders. The knightly symbol highlights the protection of traditions and faith, steadfast principles, and the noble mission of the abbey.
At the top of the shield is a unique cross known as Brigid’s Crosses. The weaving is dedicated to Saint Brigid, one of Ireland’s most revered figures. She is known for founding women’s monasteries and performing numerous miracles. Saint Brigid is venerated as the patroness of education and mercy. Her childhood in the countryside inspired the tradition of crafting crosses from straw in her memory. These crosses are distinguished by uneven rays that create a sense of movement.
Below this cross is another, formed by diamonds that make up the central part of Brigid’s Crosses. At the intersection of the diamonds, there is an ancient candlestick with a burning candle, symbolizing the light of enlightenment. This reflects the mission of the Brigidine Sisters, who sought to bring knowledge and education to the underprivileged by opening schools and promoting equality through learning.
The coats of arms for all colleges founded by these sisters share a similar composition. The shield with a diamond cross has become a symbol of unity and belonging to the sisterhood community. Today, there are ten such institutions, unified under the administration of Kildare Ministries. The name “Kildare” is linked to the first abbey founded by Saint Brigid.
