Expansion continued through acquisitions. TelCom Semiconductor joined in 2001, Silicon Storage Technology followed in 2009 for $292 million, and Standard Microsystems Corporation was acquired in 2012, adding USB hubs and embedded networking products to its portfolio.
Microchip bought Atmel for $3.56 billion in 2016, gaining AVR controllers used by Arduino, plus ARM, cryptography, and touch technologies. In 2018, it acquired Microsemi for $8.35 billion, adding FPGA, timing, aerospace, defense, and high-reliability components. Revenue exceeded $5 billion in fiscal 2019.
