open-source Logos and Brands

Open-source software, available for study, modification, and distribution, is included in the “Open Source” section. Linux with the Tux penguin, Mozilla Firefox, Apache, WordPress, Git, and Python are united by the principle of free access to code. The open source movement began in the 1980s with Richard Stallman’s GNU project and expanded through Linus Torvalds’ Linux in 1991. GitHub (Microsoft), GitLab, and Bitbucket have become platforms where millions of developers collaboratively write and test code. The logos in this section represent projects and foundations (Linux Foundation, Apache Software Foundation, Free Software Foundation) that create the infrastructure on which most of the world’s Internet servers and mobile devices operate.
