The success of the initial tablets led to the founding of the Lewis-Howe Company in 1930. The name “Tums” originated from a radio contest, where a nurse suggested the slogan “Tums for the Tummy.”

In the 1950s, the brand began nationwide advertising and gained widespread recognition. In 1978, Revlon acquired the company, and in 1986, it became part of Britain’s Beecham Group, which later merged into the pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline.
