In 1905, 47 realtors formed what is now today’s California Association of REALTORS (C.A.R.), responding to the rapid growth and the absence of clear industry standards in California’s real estate market. In 1916, the California Real Estate Association (CREA) began advocating for legislation to protect property owners and the industry’s interests. In the 1920s, CREA launched California Real Estate Magazine, expanding its reach and providing professional resources through conferences and seminars.

The California Association of Realtors built its emblem around the idea of territorial belonging and professional seriousness. The corporate nature of the logo is conveyed through restrained forms and a strict composition.
The construction consists of two parts. On the left is a diamond inside which the silhouette of the state of California is drawn in negative space. Its contour is complemented by ray-like stripes emanating from the figure’s right edge. This creates the illusion of perspective and visually focuses attention on the geographic territory, emphasizing the unifying function of the association. On the right is a three-line text block with the organization’s full name, creating an official image.
