The Champs Sports Bowl began in 1990 in Miami as the Blockbuster Bowl, where Florida State defeated Penn State before an audience of over 74,000 spectators. The game changed sponsors and names several times: Carquest Bowl (1994–1997), MicronPC Bowl (1998–2000), then relocated to Orlando as the Visit Florida Tangerine Bowl, and later as the Mazda Tangerine Bowl in 2002.
In 2004, Foot Locker became the sponsor, renaming it the Champs Sports Bowl, drawing strong collegiate teams. A 2009 game between Florida State and Wisconsin drew a record 56,000, and 2011 marked the first sell-out. Later, it was named the Russell Athletic Bowl (2012–2016), Camping World Bowl, and then the Cheez-It Bowl.
In May 2023, Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts became the title sponsor, renaming it the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Today, it remains a prestigious event, featuring top teams from the ACC and Big 12 conferences.

The Champs Sports Bowl logo, introduced in 2004 as part of a title sponsorship agreement with Champs Sports, is shaped like a heraldic shield with a pointed lower edge. It remained in use until 2011, when sponsorship rights were transferred to Russell Athletic.
The shield’s background is vertically divided into two equal sections: the left is a rich yellow-orange, and the right is a bright mint green. This two-color palette symbolizes the sunny climate and resort atmosphere of Orlando, Florida, where the tournament took place.
At the top of the composition is a stylized stadium with an arched grandstand, rendered in perspective and colored dark purple.
