1988 – 1999

The first logo of the Lipscomb Bisons athletic team, created in the late 1980s, stood out for its unusual concept and bright color palette. The composition features four bison, depicted in purple, that appear to follow one another in sequence. The silhouettes of the animals were drawn in detail, emphasizing their massiveness.

Two inscriptions were arranged in an arc around the central figures: the word “Lipscomb” at the top and “University” at the bottom. The typeface of the inscriptions was square-shaped with distinct serifs, giving the emblem classical solidity. This highlighted the university’s style, complementing the team’s athletic spirit.

Purple is the primary color for all university teams and is associated with energy, determination, and ambition. Together with white, used as a contrasting element, the logo appeared harmonious, conveying an atmosphere of team unity and competitive spirit.

2000 – 2011

The new emblem features the team’s mascot, a bison. The bison embodies power and energy, while its expression conveys readiness to attack. The mascot was adopted in 1932 when the basketball team selected its first uniform. At that time, jackets with bison images were purchased, and the head coach suggested using this name for the team. Before the bison’s appearance, the athletes were nicknamed the Crusaders.

Above the bison’s image is the university’s name, linked to its founder, David Lipscomb, a minister of the Church of Christ. A distinctive detail is the letter “i” transformed into a torch, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and the pursuit of truth. This element reflects the university’s connection to Christian values, emphasizing its spiritual and educational focus.

The logo was created in 2003 as the university prepared to join the ASUN Conference. Before that, the team operated within the NCAA Division I Independent, which favors independent status.

2012 – 2013

The emblem is transformed into a graphic representation of two letters, “LU,” representing the university’s name. These symbols represent the educational institution and serve as the name for the bison, which became its mascot. The letters partially overlap, creating a monogram. The design conveys the idea of unity and harmony, reflecting the spirit of cohesion and a shared goal.
