The Micronas logo is associated with automotive electronics, where the company develops technologies for the precise and reliable operation of complex systems. Its developments help improve safety and comfort in transportation, and its collaboration with automakers makes the brand a significant player in the industry.

Micronas: Brand overview

Micronas traces its roots to Intermetall, founded in Düsseldorf in 1952 as Europe’s first transistor manufacturer. Micronas opened a production site in Freiburg in 1962, which became its main base. In 1989, the business was reorganized as Micronas Semiconductor Holding AG in Zurich, with operations in consumer electronics and automotive components.

In 1993, Micronas became the first company to integrate a Hall sensor with CMOS technology. The development supported sensing for engine controls, transmissions, safety systems, and industrial equipment. During the 2000s, Micronas supplied television and video-processing chips while competing with STMicroelectronics and Trident Microsystems. An acquisition in 2000 strengthened its digital television business.

The financial crisis and consolidation of the television-chip market forced a change. Micronas began restructuring its consumer division in December 2008 and closed it in February 2009. Trident acquired product lines that April, including frame-rate-conversion chips. From January 2010, Micronas focused on automotive and industrial markets. A 2011 agreement with X-FAB added external wafer production.

TDK announced its acquisition of Micronas in December 2015 and completed the deal in March 2016. The shares left the SIX Swiss Exchange in October, and the company became TDK-Micronas in December. ICsense joined in 2017, adding analog and mixed-signal expertise. Hall sensor shipments passed 6 billion units by 2022 and exceeded 8 billion.

Meaning and History

Micronas Logo History

What is Micronas?

It is a company that manufactures semiconductor components for automotive and industrial electronics. Its main focus is creating Hall sensors that support engine control, safety system operation, and other automotive systems. These sensors can accurately detect magnetic fields, making them important elements of modern technology. The company’s developments enable cars to more accurately determine the position of their mechanisms, ensuring reliable and safe operation.

Micronas has specialized in semiconductors and sensors in automotive electronics and household appliances since the early 1990s. Originally a Swiss startup, it was later acquired by TDK. The company’s microchips ensure the smooth operation of various automotive systems, from position sensors to engine control units.

The company logo is composed of simple elements. On the left is a diamond-shaped symbol composed of smaller blue diamonds arranged in a 3×3 grid. The central diamond is surrounded by eight others, forming a geometric composition. The topmost diamond is slightly shifted upward, appearing separate from the group. The blue color references Micronas’s technological products and is associated with electronics.

The company name is placed to the right, written on a single line in a clean, thin font. The letters have smooth shapes that harmoniously complement the symbol’s geometry. The dark gray text color is calm and neutral, reflecting the company’s technical orientation.

The overall composition creates an impression of order and structure, reflecting the character of the company’s products: sensors and integrated circuits essential for modern automotive and general-purpose electronics.

In 2016, the German company Micronas merged with TDK, and the new company’s emblem incorporated elements of both brands. TDK is an international corporation with extensive experience and a reputation for reliability. The symbol embodies the company’s characteristics: precision and technological complexity.

The TDK logo is straightforward: an unusual blue symbol on the left, with the three-letter inscription “TDK” to the right. The geometric symbol appears intricate, resembling a crystal or technical component composed of multiple triangles. It symbolizes the company’s business areas: electronics, precision measurement, innovation, and the development of high-tech materials.

The dark, reserved blue color sets a serious tone for the emblem. The “TDK” text font is bold and simple, with letters evenly spaced and slightly elongated horizontally. This design style is often found in technical documentation or on industrial equipment components, clearly reflecting the nature of a company involved in electronic components, sensors, and magnetic materials.
