The MultiCare Health System logo represents a network of medical institutions that grew out of a small center where people were helped. Over time, the scale has expanded, and treatment methods have improved, but the main thing that has remained the same is caring for patients, regardless of their circumstances.
MultiCare Health System began in Tacoma, Washington, with the opening of Fannie C. Paddock Memorial Hospital on April 29, 1882. Bishop John A. Paddock founded the hospital in memory of his wife, Fannie, who had collected $500 for its creation before her death. The first facility operated in a converted dance hall on Starr Street and treated 78 patients during its first year. It also became home to Washington’s first nursing school.
As Tacoma grew, the hospital moved to a new building at 312 S. J Street in 1889. In 1900, it purchased its first X-ray machine for $600 and, in 1912, renamed itself Tacoma General Hospital. A larger hospital building opened in 1915 with new medical facilities, including an X-ray room and a patient call system. Another important institution opened in Spokane: Maria Beard Home and Hospital in 1896, which later became Deaconess Hospital. Dr. William Robinson founded Rockwood Clinic in Spokane in 1930.
In 1955, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital opened in Tacoma after decades of efforts by the Tacoma Orthopedic Association. In 1980, Tacoma General Hospital, Mary Bridge Children’s, and Doctors Hospital Tacoma merged under Consolidated Hospitals. The organization became MultiCare Medical Center in 1983 and adopted the name MultiCare Health System in 1989, the same year Allenmore Hospital joined the network.
MultiCare continued its expansion through acquisitions, including Good Samaritan Hospital in 2006, Auburn Regional Medical Center in 2012, and Deaconess Hospital, Valley Hospital, and Rockwood Clinic in Spokane in 2017. In 2023, Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital joined the system, followed by Overlake Medical Center & Clinics in 2024. In 2025, MultiCare launched the MultiCare Cancer Institute and MultiCare Neuroscience Institute, expanding its medical services across Washington state.

To the right of the name is a symbol shaped like an inclined letter “M” with a white cross inside a typical medical symbol. The figure is slightly tilted to the right and has rounded corners, making it look friendly and neat. The cross inside is left white to contrast with the background.
The name indicates the brand’s line of work: multifunctional healthcare. The organization offers a range of medical services, from general therapy to specialized procedures and treatments.
