NHL Logos and Brands

Professional hockey in North America is primarily associated with the National Hockey League, and the “NHL” section has collected the league’s logos and those of its member clubs. NHL franchises are scattered across the United States and Canada, and their emblems draw on local symbols, wildlife, historical events, and cultural characteristics of their host cities. Several clubs have existed since the early 20th century, and their logos have undergone many transformations, reflecting changes in sports marketing and visual culture. An analysis of NHL logos allows us to trace the evolution of hockey brands over more than a century of league expansion, team relocations, and ownership changes.
