The Mississippi Braves franchise began in 1966 as a Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves in Austin, Texas. It moved to Shreveport in 1968 and to Savannah in 1971, where it spent 13 seasons. Dale Murphy, Steve Bedrosian, and other future MLB players passed through the Savannah roster before reaching the major leagues.
The team relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, in 1984. Its 1992 squad won 100 regular-season games and the Southern League championship, with Chipper Jones and Javy López on the roster. Declining conditions at Greenville Municipal Stadium and failed negotiations for a replacement arena eventually pushed the franchise to move again.
Developer Tim Bennett approached Pearl mayor Jimmy Foxworth in 2003 with a plan for a modern ballpark. Trustmark Park opened near Jackson in 2005 with roughly 7,000 seats. A sellout crowd attended the first home game on April 18, although Montgomery Biscuits won. Brian Snitker managed the inaugural Mississippi club and later guided its parent organization to the 2021 World Series title.
Mississippi won the Southern League championship in 2008 after three extra-inning victories over Carolina Mudcats, including a 3-2 result in the decisive fifth game. Another title followed in 2021, when many former M-Braves formed the core of the parent club’s championship roster. Falling attendance led to a relocation announcement in January 2024. The team left Pearl after the season and became the Columbus Clingstones in 2025.

2005 – 2024
The Mississippi Braves’ emblem was introduced when the team relocated from Greenville to Pearl, Mississippi. It remained unchanged until the end of the 2024 season, when the club moved to Columbus, Georgia, and adopted the new name Columbus Clingstones.
The visual composition of the Mississippi Braves logo was based on elements inherited from the parent club’s identity, the Atlanta Braves, including the signature brand attribute: a red tomahawk with decorative gold and navy blue details. The main style of the word “Braves” was also preserved, written in an uppercase custom script resembling italic handwriting, accented with a navy blue shadow and outline.
Unlike the original Atlanta Braves design, the Mississippi Braves’ emblem featured distinct local elements that emphasized the team’s regional identity. The central shape was a yellow silhouette of the state of Mississippi with a contrasting navy blue border. In the center of the silhouette was a small star marking the exact location of Pearl, the team’s home city.
At the top of the composition, inside a horizontal white rectangle with a double red-and-blue border, appeared the word “MISSISSIPPI” in a classic serif typeface similar to Times. This choice added a formal and authoritative tone to the logo, reinforcing the team’s regional status.
A key component of the emblem was a stylized baseball with characteristic red stitching and a clear flight trajectory, visually representing the club’s dynamism and athleticism. This element was also directed toward the Pearl star, creating visual unity within the composition.
The color palette was built around four primary colors: deep navy blue, scarlet red, gold, and white, matching the original Atlanta Braves palette. Additional subtle accents in black and light blue added volume and visual depth to the logo.
In 2019, to celebrate the team’s 15th anniversary, a temporary commemorative logo was created using the Roman numeral XV alongside the club’s primary emblem. Designed by the team’s graphic artist, Garrett Steiger, this temporary addition strengthened the team’s identity during the anniversary season.
