MV Agusta began its journey in 1945 when it branched out as a motorcycle manufacturing division from the Agusta aviation enterprise close to Milan, Italy. Count Giovanni Agusta led the inception of this venture. That same year saw the debut of MV Agusta’s maiden motorcycle, which was adapted from a design they acquired from Piero Remor, and these early years witnessed the production of various models, from modest, lightweight ones to extravagant choices suited for the affluent class.

The prominence of MV Agusta in the motorbike world was indisputably evident during the 1940s and 1950s. They became a force to be reckoned with in Grand Prix motorcycle races, clinching countless world championship titles. This led to the rise of iconic riders such as Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood, and John Surtees, who carved their legacies while astride MV Agusta machines.

As the 1960s rolled in, MV Agusta ventured into crafting road-friendly motorcycles, showcasing models like the 750 America, Superveloce, and Brutale. These machines were not just about getting from point A to B; they were a testament to performance and became much sought after. However, as with many businesses, financial challenges emerged in the 1970s. The outcome was a decision to transfer the ownership of the motorcycle venture to the Castiglioni family in 1975. Although the MV moniker temporarily took a backseat, production persisted under the Cagiva banner throughout the following decades.

By 1997, a resurgence was in order as the Castiglioni lineage breathed life back into the MV Agusta name, positioning it as MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. The creation of upscale, limited-edition motorcycles marked this new era. The company continued crafting unparalleled sports bikes at its Varese-based factory. Synonymous with opulence and exclusivity, MV Agusta remained an emblem of luxury on a niche scale. In a significant move in 2017, Mercedes-AMG acquired MV Agusta, yet the heart and soul of its production remains firmly rooted in Italy.
