Richmond Flying Squirrels Logo PNG
The Richmond Flying Squirrels logo symbolizes a baseball team with a vibrant and daring character. In this club, sport turns into an exciting game full of energy, humor, and spectacle.
The Richmond Flying Squirrels trace their origins to 1972, when the West Haven Yankees, an affiliate of the New York Yankees, began play in West Haven, Connecticut. Bobby Cox, a future Atlanta Braves legend, coached that team. During the 1980s, the club relocated multiple times, first to Albany and then to Norwich as the Connecticut Defenders.
In 2009, the owners relocated the team to Richmond, Virginia, which had been without baseball since the Richmond Braves moved to Georgia. Fans chose the name Richmond Flying Squirrels. Baseball America named their new squirrel logo the best in the minor leagues. The team began play at the Diamond Stadium, becoming one of the Double-A league’s most popular teams.
In 2014, the Flying Squirrels reached their first Eastern League finals. In 2019, Richmond hosted the All-Star Game, setting a new attendance record. In 2021, the club joined the restructured Double-A Northeast league. Construction of the modern CarMax Park stadium began in 2024, with an anticipated 2026 opening, making it the new home of the Flying Squirrels.

2010 – today
After the Richmond Flying Squirrels relocated to Georgia, a new, memorable image was needed to underscore the club’s ambitions. The task was taken on by the Brandiose studio from San Diego. The result was a striking cartoon symbol of a flying, energetic superhero squirrel.
The character is depicted with its front paws extended, resembling a flying squirrel. The animal is anthropomorphic, with an aggressive facial expression. It has narrow eyes, a tightly closed mouth, and tense cheek contours. The image appears bold and expressive, conveying the club’s sporting spirit.
On the chest of the squirrel mascot is an acorn-shaped shield. On its surface is the letter “R,” rendered in white with a black outline. The typeface is unusual, with elements of a comic style. The lower line of the letter is stylized as a tail, making it original and memorable and echoing the mascot itself. The acorn is the key to the symbol’s recognizability and is associated with the city of Richmond, making the mascot feel close to and understandable to the team’s fans.
The colors were selected with an emphasis on emotion and contrast. The official shade is cardinal red, a bright, rich red. It runs as an outline along the character’s entire contour, adding energy to the illustration. The main silhouette is rendered in black, while the paws and body details are drawn in light gray. Due to the palette combination, the logo appears dimensional.
In addition to its impressive appearance, the Richmond Flying Squirrels’ emblem was recognized by professionals in sports marketing and design. Shortly after its launch, Ballpark Digest named it the best of the season. The Brandiose studio not only created an image for the team but also made its symbol recognizable far beyond the club’s home stadium.
