Advan: Brand overview

Yokohama Rubber Company introduced the ADVAN brand in 1978, after setting a goal in 1976 to develop a high-performance tire with strong wet-road performance and world-class technical standards. The name came from the Latin “advenire,” meaning “to arrive.” The first model, ADVAN HF, was built for grip on wet and dry roads, wear resistance, and stable performance.

ADVAN HF gained recognition in Japan and helped Yokohama Rubber strengthen its position in the premium tire segment. In 1980, ADVAN tires appeared at the Suzuka Great 20 round of the Japanese Formula 2 Championship, giving the brand its first major racing platform. The company then moved the line into international motorsport, using competition to test handling, traction, and durability under pressure.

In 1981, ADVAN entered the World Rally Championship, where tires had to perform across changing surfaces, speeds, and weather conditions. In 1982, the brand appeared in the European Formula 3 Championship. ADVAN tires later became part of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, adding endurance racing to the record and bringing the name to teams and drivers outside Japan.

During the 1990s, ADVAN gained popularity in the United States and Europe among racing drivers and performance-car owners. In the 2000s, its tires were used in Formula Drift, the World Touring Car Championship, and Super GT. Through the 2010s, Yokohama Rubber expanded the range with more sizes and specifications for sports cars, performance vehicles, and premium sedans, keeping ADVAN tied to racing and road performance.

Advan Logo

The ADVAN logo is designed to be bold and energetic, evoking the world of speed and motorsports. The main graphic element consists of three red diagonal stripes resembling tire marks left on a racetrack during acceleration. These stripes, shaped as parallelograms of varying widths, partially overlap the company name, which is rendered in large white letters. This integration of text and graphic elements creates a cohesive, fast-moving visual impression.

The name “ADVAN” is set in a clean, sans-serif typeface, making it highly legible and direct. The white lettering stands out sharply against the black background, adding clarity and visual impact to the logo.

The color palette is high-contrast: the black background conveys premium quality, while the vivid red stripes represent power and energy, reflecting the brand’s racing DNA. The red elements stand out boldly against the black, emphasizing the design’s dynamic nature.

Visual cues in the logo directly reference the company’s core products: automotive tires and wheels. The three red lines suggest tread marks, reinforcing the connection to tire performance, durability, and the dual-layer structure typical of ADVAN products. Through a streamlined design, the brand positions itself as a professional manufacturer of reliable, high-performance tires for everything from daily driving to the extreme demands of racing.

The ADVAN logo expresses speed, quality, and technical precision, forming a strong visual identity for a brand dedicated to delivering confidence and reliability on the road.
