The seventh-generation iPad Pro, unveiled on May 15, became the first device powered by this chip. Manufactured by TSMC using second-generation 3-nanometer (N3E) technology, the processor contains 28 billion transistors and features up to 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, delivering a claimed performance improvement of 1.5 times over the M2.
In October 2024, Apple released the enhanced M4 Pro and Max chips, significantly expanding the capabilities of its Mac lineup. The Pro variant features up to 14 CPU cores, up to 20 GPU cores, and a unified memory bandwidth of 273 GB/s, 75% faster than its predecessor. The Max version further advances performance, offering up to 16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores, and 128GB unified memory.
Apple’s updated MacBook Pro and Mac mini models, launched alongside these chips, marked notable gains in efficiency and computing power. In November 2024, the 24-inch iMac also received the M4 upgrade, featuring USB-C peripherals, increased RAM options up to 32GB, and an optional nano-texture glass display. Pre-orders began on October 28, with shipping scheduled for November 8.
Since their release, these M4-series processors have become central to Apple’s computing products, improving battery life and performance across the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac lineups.

What is Apple Chip M4?
This modern system-on-chip (SoC) is designed for tablets, computers, and laptops. It features a 16-core neural engine capable of performing up to 38 trillion operations per second, as well as a 10-core central processor that combines high-performance and energy-efficient cores. The graphics unit features up to 10 cores, 120 GB/s of memory bandwidth, and up to 32 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory. The chip contains 28 billion transistors and is manufactured using a 3-nanometer process. The lineup includes more powerful versions with increased cores and enhanced computing performance.
2024 – today
The Apple M4 chip logo accompanied the announcement of the new Apple Silicon processor in May 2024. It was introduced during the iPad Pro presentation, marking the first device to feature this chip. The Apple Industrial Design Group created the logo in collaboration with the marketing division. The same team that had been responsible since 2020 for the visual appearance of the M1, M2, and M3 processors worked on the identity of the entire Apple Silicon series. After Evans Hankey left design management in 2022, the group’s structure was updated, but the approach to chip styling was preserved.
The composition is horizontal. On the left is the silhouette of the Apple, on the right is the large inscription “M4.” The symbol and the text are aligned by height.
The typographic part is based on the San Francisco typeface. Its modified version is used with enhanced density and adapted proportions. The design of the letters and numbers is massive, sans serif, with uniform stroke thickness. All characters are in uppercase. The font was developed by Apple in 2015 specifically for high-density screens, making it well-suited for interfaces and micro layouts.
The palette uses black on a white background. The visual concept emphasizes the product’s compactness and technological nature. The Apple silhouette identifies the company, and the “M4” designation designates the processor generation.
