ASL Airlines Ireland: Brand overview

In the great annals of aviation history, ASL Airlines Ireland (ASLI) has made its mark over four magnificent decades. ASLI originally began in 1972 under the enterprising wing of Irish businessman Jim O’Driscoll as Air Bridge Carriers.

With only three aircraft, Air Bridge Carriers operated cargo services in Europe and the Middle East. However, the humble beginnings could not deter ambitious dreams, and soon, the airline was flying routes to Africa and Asia. By the mid-1980s, the airline’s hangar had a fleet of 12 aircraft ranging from the legendary BAC One-Eleven to the reliable Lockheed L-100 Hercules.

In 1992, a major turnaround occurred when the reins of Air Bridge Carriers were taken over by Virgin Atlantic Airways, breathing new life into the airline. A few years later, in 1998, the airline was acquired by Dublin-based aviation services company Air Contractors, leading to a complete rebranding.

In 2015, as part of a larger strategic change undertaken by the ASL Aviation Group, Air Contractors undertook a significant rebranding as ASL Airlines. This created a unified brand identity for subsidiaries in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Continuing its tradition of providing extensive cargo services, ASL Airlines Ireland has a modern fleet of 38 aircraft, including Boeing 747s, Airbus A330s, and ATRs. The airline was poised to reach greater heights with a refreshed corporate identity and modernized fleet.

ASL Airlines Ireland Logo

As the airline specializes in cargo delivery, the ASL Airlines Ireland logo is large and heavy. It features an inscription made up of solid glyphs linked into a single structure. Above the crossbar of the letter “A,” there is a small curved arrow pointing to the left. Below is a similar but enlarged azure-colored element with an elongated point transitioning into a thin line. Below the letters “S” and “L” in two lines is the carrier’s name in bold italic type.

The large and heavy font fits well with the company’s focus on freight transportation, emphasizing strength and reliability. The arrows in the design symbolize the focus and precision of logistics – important traits for a cargo airline. The azure color of the larger arrow adds to the dynamism of the airline’s operations. The use of bold italic font for the carrier’s name gives the impression of movement, perhaps indicating the constant activity associated with cargo transportation.
