Banca Mediolanum traces its origins to 1982, when Ennio Doris, together with Silvio Berlusconi’s Fininvest Group, founded the company Programma Italia in the suburbs of Milan. The goal of the project was to create a new model of financial consulting in which a single advisor assisted the client with all matters of wealth management.

In 1984, the company acquired the insurance firms Mediolanum Vita and Mediolanum Assicurazione. In 1985, it launched mutual funds through Gestione Fondi Fininvest. By the mid-1990s, Mediolanum had developed into a multi-level financial structure. In 1996, the company’s shares were listed on Borsa Italiana.

In 1997, Banca Mediolanum was established. It introduced an innovative multichannel service model in Italy, including telephone, teletext, and personal advisors. During the same period, Mediolanum International Funds and Banca Esperia were founded, with the latter focused on high-net-worth clients.

In 2000, the bank launched a web platform and acquired the Spanish bank Fibanc. In the following years, the group entered the markets of Germany, Austria, and Monaco. It strengthened its position as a private universal bank.

In 2013, Mediolanum became the first bank in Italy to introduce smartphone transfers and received the ABI Banking Innovation award. In 2015, the bank merged with Mediolanum S.p.A. and was included in the FTSE MIB index.

After Ennio Doris died in 2021, management passed to his son, Massimo. By 2024, the bank achieved a record net profit of 1.12 billion euros and managed assets totaling 138.49 billion euros. Service for nearly two million clients was provided through a network of family bankers and digital channels.

An Italian financial institution based in Basiglio, near Milan, was founded as a joint venture of Fininvest and financier Ennio Doris. Control is divided between the heirs of Berlusconi, who hold 30 percent of the shares, and the Doris family, which holds 26 percent. Activities include banking services, asset management, insurance, and international branches in Spain and Germany. The institution integrates banking, investment, and insurance solutions through a network of financial advisors and automated programs, including the Intelligent Investment Platform.

Banca Mediolanum’s first logo incorporated several layers and elements reflecting the style of a financial institution. The composition centers on the large, dark blue MEDIOLANUM inscription, set in uppercase letters of a strict serif font resembling classic Times or Bodoni. Above this word, slightly smaller and in the same color, is the word BANCA, also in uppercase letters.

A thin blue line runs beneath the main inscription, below which is the slogan COSTRUITA INTORNO A TE. The phrase is set in sans-serif uppercase in the same dark blue shade, creating a unified color scheme with the logo’s main text.

To the left of the central text block is a light blue symbol. The left part resembles a flower with eight rounded petals. A horizontal line extends to the right from it, connecting the flower to a series of vertical shapes resembling three pointed-ended rectangles, as if symbolizing growth on a chart.

The bank’s logo conveys development, financial growth, and stability, combining the seriousness of a classic font with the lightness and symbolism of the blue graphics.

2015 – today

When Banca Mediolanum became the group’s parent company, it underwent a brand refresh that affected both the logo and the internal structure. The Mediolanum typeface was developed specifically for the bank by Landor Italia in collaboration with the company’s team.

The rebranding resulted in a modern logo featuring the bank’s name and a symbol organically integrated into the word. The main “mediolanum” text is rendered in lowercase, in a rich, dark blue that is pleasing to the eye. The typeface features light serifs and smooth curves, stylistically reminiscent of Gotham Rounded or Avenir Next Rounded. It conveys a sense of solidity.

The symbol is integrated into the name itself, encircling the first letter “m” with a light-blue open circle. The circle breaks at the letter “e,” leaving the composition visually open and light, as if to signify the bank’s openness and accessibility to customers.

The word BANCA is set apart. It is located in the top-right corner, slightly above the main text. The letters of this word are also dark blue, but are set in uppercase and a smaller size.

The new logo reflects the bank’s structural changes.
