Cobalt Air: Brand overview

Founded on June 1, 2016, Cobalt Air was one of the pioneers in the aviation industry in Cyprus, seizing the opportunity after the disbandment of the flagship carrier Cyprus Airways in 2015. From a hub at Larnaca International Airport, Cobalt Air has quickly transformed itself into a gateway to exciting travel for both residents and visitors to Cyprus, redefining the possibilities of sourcing.

Setting its sights high, Cobalt Air embarked on its maiden flight from Larnaca to Athens, marking the beginning of a remarkable ascent. In just one year, from June 2017 to October 2018, the airline became the second largest operator at Larnaca International Airport, occupying an impressive 8.2% of the airport’s weekly capacity, second only to Aegean Airlines.

Having gained momentum, Cobalt Air aims to surpass Aegean Airlines and become the airport’s leading carrier by the summer of 2018. The airline had grand expansion plans that promised to outshine its competitors. However, despite its rosy prospects, Cobalt Air faced insurmountable financial difficulties, resulting in the sad decision to cease operations on October 17, 2018.

What is Cobalt Air?

Cobalt Air hails from Nicosia, and after making Larnaca International Airport its base airport, Cobalt Air has taken its place in the Cypriot aviation industry. Founded in 2015, the airline made its first flight in 2016 and quickly established itself as a reliable service provider in the region. Despite its relatively short existence, ceasing in 2018, the company’s influence and legacy in the Cypriot aviation sector remains significant. Over the years, the company has connected the Mediterranean to numerous destinations in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. It filled a significant void left by the liquidation of the country’s former flagship carrier, Cyprus Airways.

Cobalt Air Logo

The emblem of the Cypriot carrier is characterized by high professionalism and, at the same time, not lacking in creativity: the Cobalt Air logo is a balanced combination of text and graphics. The drawn element is so harmoniously combined with the text that they are perceived as a whole. It is two broad strokes in the upper right corner, adapted from the second half of the letter “T.” Both lines are pointed but differ in size and color: the first is long and cobalt blue, and the second is short and light sky-blue. The font is uppercase, sans-serif, with a graceful elongated curve of the letter “C.”

The intentional choice of cobalt and sky blue colors gives the design depth and alludes to the company’s namesake, Cobalt Air. These shades of blue also typically signify trust and reliability, which are highly valued in the aviation industry. The integration of artistic touches with text demonstrates a combination of artistic imagination and corporate solidity, creating a compelling visual identity for the airline.
