The developers of the CSGO multiplayer game have chosen a thematic logo. A soldier aiming while standing up captures the atmosphere of a first-person shooter in detail. It is depicted as a black silhouette on a white background. The tense atmosphere is reflected in the military man’s pose, as his face is not visible.
Counter-Strike began in 1999, when students Minh Le and Jess Cliffe released a Half-Life mod centered on two teams: terrorists and counter-terrorists. The mod quickly became a major PC gaming phenomenon. Valve bought the rights and published it as a standalone game in November 2000. In October 2004, Counter-Strike: Source moved the series to the Source engine.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive started as a task given to Hidden Path Entertainment: port Counter-Strike: Source to Xbox 360. The project then grew into a new game, partly because Counter-Strike had become one of the company’s least updated series. “CS:GO” was announced on August 12, 2011, and closed beta testing began on November 30, 2011.
“CS:GO” was released on August 21, 2012, for Windows, macOS, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, with Linux following in September 2014. After launch, Hidden Path stepped back, and further updates continued internally. The start was modest: in its first month, the peak number of concurrent players remained below 52,000. The turning point came in August 2013 with the Arms Deal update, which added weapon skins, cases, trading, M4A1-S, USP-S, and early eSports cases.
The skin economy changed the game’s community and added a new commercial layer to “CS:GO”. In 2013, the first sponsored Major tournament helped define it as an esports title, competing for attention with Activision’s Call of Duty. On December 6, 2018, “CS:GO” became free-to-play and added Danger Zone. In April 2020, it reached 1,305,714 concurrent players. Counter-Strike 2 was announced on March 22, 2023, released on September 27, 2023, and replaced “CS:GO” in Steam; support for “CS:GO” ended on January 1, 2024.
Meaning and History
The CSGO logo remains stable and is available in two forms: the full name and the abbreviated name. In the first case, the inscription is two-level and right-aligned; in the second case, it is horizontal and divided into two segments. However, the silhouette of a soldier is always the same: a machine gun raised to eye level as the fighter carefully aims at the target. There is only one emblem, which is a continuation of its predecessor, the Counter-Strike: Source badge.
The figure of a man is presented as a shadow, in which the exact outlines of the pose, ammunition, and weapons are discernible. The soldier has numerous military items on his belt, typically used in battle. Judging by the location of the legs (one in front, the second shifted back and to the side), the man appears to be aiming or shooting. A soldier is wearing a helmet on his head, and he holds a machine gun in his hands. Experts even identified its brand. Based on the curved magazine, this is a 5.56mm SCAR-L assault rifle. Because the base of the SCAR-17 is the SCAR-H, which has a slightly larger caliber, 7.62 mm. Even though the SCAR-L is no longer in the game, this weapon type is still preserved in the logo.
What is CSGO?
CSGO is a multiplayer shooter-style video game. It is the fourth in a series of the same name on a military theme. Its developer is Valve, with the participation of Hidden Path Entertainment. The full name of the game is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The first release was launched in 2012.
There are abbreviations on the sides of the figure: “CS” on the left and “GO” on the right. The letters are bold, large, capitalized, and square. They all look like different “O” segments. This impression is created due to the rounded corners on the outside. But from the inside, the corners remained straight and even: each had 90 degrees.
The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive logo has not been modified and is a direct continuation of its predecessor, used in Counter-Strike: Source. This is due to the video game theme, which has never changed.
Font and Colors
The typeface is reminiscent of TVGlobeHD Regular. It is just as bold, blocky, and square, with cuts at the ends of the letters. Although the palette is monochrome, it exists in two versions: a black silhouette on a white background and a white one on a black background.
