Hot battles between two active star teams lie behind the emblem. It takes extraordinary strength and ingenuity to win. The Brawl Stars logo communicates impartial judging, equal opportunity, and excitement.
Supercell was founded in Helsinki in 2010 by veterans of the Finnish game industry. After Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, the company had money, scale, and a harder question: what could follow those hits? Brawl Stars grew from an attempt to build a team-based mobile game with the appeal of League of Legends and Overwatch, but with shorter sessions and cleaner controls.
Supercell announced the game on June 14, 2017, during a livestream. A day later, Brawl Stars entered iOS beta testing in Canada with 15 characters and several modes. The test period was difficult. The team questioned whether the game would ever reach a global launch. During development, the screen orientation changed from vertical to horizontal, tap controls were replaced with joysticks, the interface was rebuilt, and the art moved from 2D to 3D.
On January 19, 2018, Brawl Stars expanded its soft launch to Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, and Malaysia. The global release on December 12, 2018, for iOS and Android was 522 days after the first announcement. In its first month, revenue passed $63 million. The game entered a market where Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Arena of Valor were already strong, but Brawl Stars relied on short 3-on-3 matches, rotating modes, and distinct brawlers.
In May 2020, Supercell introduced Brawl Pass, which changed the monetization model. That year, the game earned $526 million and became Supercell’s fourth title to pass $1 billion in lifetime revenue. Brawl Stars built an esports scene after its first world championship in Busan in November 2019. By 2024, the world final in Helsinki drew peak viewership above 1 million.
Meaning and History
In a short period, the game has changed its logos three times. The identity experiments are now over: Brawl Stars continues to use the classic badge introduced in 2018. It contains several elements, including stylized lettering and a winged star.
What is Brawl Stars?
Brawl Stars is a strategic video game in which users engage in team battles to capture the enemy base, establish control over treasures, or survive. The goal depends on the chosen game mode. Each character has unique abilities, making the game even more exciting. The beta version of the shooter was released in 2017, followed by the main version in 2018. It is a project by the Finnish company Supercell Oy.
2017 – 2018
From the very first emblem of Brawl Stars, it becomes clear that this is a colorful game with cartoon graphics. The central image is a golden six-pointed star that occurs in the fictional universe. For example, she is depicted on the Star Forces’ icons.
The star contains several color segments of different shades and is outlined with a black stripe. Right in front of it is the game’s name: above it is the blue word “BRAWL,” and below it is the red “STARS” shot in three places from a pistol.
2018
A year after launch, the beta version changed its logo. In the new interpretation, the star is much smaller under the white and red inscription “BRAWL STARS.” In the center of the six-pointed figure is a skull – the same as on the game coins. There are no more marks from the shots, but the shooting is hinted at by two pistols that look out from behind the star.
This time, the designers paid attention to the background. They decorated the background with blue skulls and complemented them with blue multidirectional stripes in several shades.
2018 – today
The global launch of Brawl Stars was another reason for the logo update. The developers removed the colorful background and left a space. This made it possible to emphasize the name of the game and the golden star with the skull. After the redesign, the badge looks more friendly because the pistols have been replaced with two white angel wings.
The main element of the logo is one of the in-game currencies: a coin featuring a skull. It is used to purchase gold and silver “suits” or make various store purchases. For example, goods can be gadgets and power points.
Another important part of the emblem is the star. This is the personification of the so-called “star forces” from the game. There are 88 of them – each fighter has two. They unlock new abilities that aid in combat. An asterisk indicates the presence of such an item in character with wings on the sides.
Font and Colors
The logo for the final version of Brawl Stars was developed from the previous one. It inherited the Nougat font with unusual, bold letters in a retro style. The typeface belongs to the serif class but has jagged, angular, and very short serifs. Symbols also seem to be “bouncing.” The designers emphasized this effect by breaking the symmetry of the stitching.
Both the graphics and the lettering are very colorful, making the game inviting to play. The word “BRAWL” is white, “STARS” is red, and the star and the coin are painted in several shades of gold. Wide black shadows surround them and outlines that make the logo visible against a light background.
