Gameloft: Brand overview

Gameloft was founded on 14 December 1999 in Paris by Michel Guillemot as Gameloft.com, reflecting the dot-com era. Guillemot co-founded Ubisoft with his brothers in 1986. The company focused on mobile gaming at a time when the market for such products had not yet taken shape.

In the early 2000s, Gameloft developed Java-based games for feature phones with limited hardware. The portfolio included racing, action, and puzzle titles. In 2003, the company went public on the Paris Stock Exchange and supported more than 100 mobile devices. In 2004, the Montreal studio released Asphalt: Urban GT, which sold over 5 million copies. In 2006, Gangstar was launched, adapting open-world gameplay for mobile platforms. Between 2003 and 2006, revenue grew rapidly, and staff expanded from around 100 to 2400 employees, with distribution reaching over 120 countries.

In 2008, Apple launched the App Store, and Gameloft became an early iPhone publisher. By 2009, total downloads exceeded 200 million. Modern Combat: Sandstorm was released as a mobile FPS, unlike Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. In 2009, management reported that iOS revenue was approximately 400 times Android’s, leading to reduced investment in Android and a brief attempt to sell games outside Google Play in 2010.

In 2013, Asphalt 8: Airborne introduced redesigned gameplay and surpassed 500 million downloads. In 2015, Vivendi began acquiring shares, reaching a controlling stake in 2016 after a hostile takeover. On 29 June 2016, Michel Guillemot left the company and returned to Ubisoft. Later, Gameloft underwent restructuring and studio closures, facing stronger competition from companies such as Supercell.

At the center of the composition is a large letter “G,” stylized as a rounded figure with soft lines and smooth curves.
