Legrand: Brand overview

Legrand, a multinational industrial conglomerate based in France, is known for its expertise in designing and manufacturing products and systems for the electrical and digital infrastructure sector. The company dates back to 1865 and operates from its headquarters in Limoges, France.

The company’s product range includes electrical installation products, power distribution systems, structured cabling solutions, and lighting control systems. Another key product offering of Legrand is cable management systems. In the market, the company is mainly represented by electrical solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and data centers.

To maintain its global reach, Legrand uses well-known brands such as Cablofil, Numeric UPS, Planet, and Bticino in addition to its namesake brand. The company employs about 38,000 people, and its products are available in more than 180 countries.

Financially, Legrand is prominent: its shares are listed on the Euronext Paris stock exchange, and its revenue is expected to total 6.6 billion euros as of 2021. The company’s growth strategy includes significant acquisitions such as Raritan, Milestone, and Primex, which have strengthened its potential in the software and data center segments.

Legrand’s commitment to innovation is reflected in its pioneering work, such as the invention of the first molded electrical outlet in 1898 and the Mosaic modular control system in 1993. However, the company faces stiff competition from major players in the electrical equipment industry, such as Schneider Electric, Eaton, and Siemens.

Legrand Logo

The current Legrand logo was registered in 1977 but began to be used in 1974. The logo consists of two letters, “L,” forming a monogram. One “L” stands for the company itself, and the other for the city of Limoges, where it is located. These letters form a square separated by two short vertical lines. This design resembles a simple circuit switching diagram, which is quite appropriate for a company that manufactures electrical equipment. The name “Legrand” is written in red on the left, and the font has a balanced combination of angles and curves, which gives it a nice and neat look.

The logo is more than just a design; it tells a little story about the company. The two L’s are reminiscent of partners, showing how the company and the city work together. The square with lines resembles a mini-map showing the connection between the chains, and it’s simple enough to understand. The red text is bold, but not too much so that it stands out and doesn’t take up the entire logo.
