The Macquarie Bank logo, created by Ken Cato of “Cato Design,” was introduced on January 23, 1985. In the same year, the company received its banking license and based its mark on the “holey dollar,” Australia’s first official currency, issued in the 19th century.

The brand’s history began with “Hill Samuel Australia.” The company opened in December 1969, with only 3 employees. In 1985, it was renamed “Macquarie Bank” in honor of “Lachlan Macquarie,” the well-known governor of New South Wales. In 2007, “Macquarie Group Limited” was created, bringing together banking and non-banking businesses.

The Macquarie symbol looks like a black ring with a white circle inside. The edge of the ring is uneven, with a slight visual vibration. Through this effect, the form resembles a coin and refers to the historical “holey dollar.”

To the right of the mark is the name “MACQUARIE.” The inscription is set in a typeface closely related to “Futura” and “Gotham.” The letters are thin, elongated, and black.

In recent years, Macquarie Group introduced the “MCQ Global” typeface for corporate communications. For the international environment, “Noto Sans” was added to ensure the brand system could work across different alphabets and formats.
