The renowned animation company started as the Graphics Group. It was this phrase that was located on her logo for the first seven years of work. The designers centered the name at the top of the emblem, placing it unevenly over the triple oval. The fragment on the left side was made in thin red letters, on the right – the same thread-like characters, but in black. A similar palette was used for the main element – an elliptical graphic symbol.
The first was the edging strip of uneven width: narrow at the top and bottom and thickened at the sides. Further, there was a free white space, repeating the outlines of the edge line. Behind it was another oval – a wide one, delimited in the middle into two parts. They were painted similarly to the phrase and to match its color. In the center was an inverted “C” that looked down with its open side. Below the logo was the modest inscription “THE ART OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION” was below the logo, decorated in the same style as the top line. They were both typed in Avant Garde Gothic Book.
1986 – 1994
The debut emblem was in a square with wide frames at the edges and a round hole in the middle. It was called that: Beveled Square with a Dent. Simultaneously, the acronym BSD was associated with Berkeley Software Distribution, operating systems of the UNIX family.
The image was based on Pixar graphics computer designs. John Lasseter created the inscription under the geometric shape. To modernize the Stevens Titling typeface, he used an unusual tool – a stone cutting machine.
