Stellar Blade is the first major console project from SHIFT UP Corporation, a Seoul-based studio founded in December 2013 by South Korean artist and character designer Kim Hyung-tae. Before founding SHIFT UP, Kim worked at Softmax and NCSoft, where he helped develop Magna Carta and served as art director for Blade & Soul. The studio was created to develop original projects with full control over production.
SHIFT UP faced financial difficulties in its early years and relied on investments before releasing its first game. In partnership with Line Games, the company developed Destiny Child, a mobile gacha RPG launched in 2016. The game reached leading positions in South Korean app stores and later received international and Japanese releases. In 2022, SHIFT UP released Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, which generated over $600 million in revenue by early 2024.
The project that became Stellar Blade was first announced in 2019 as Project EVE. The game was initially planned for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Still, after Sony Interactive Entertainment became the publisher in 2021, the title became a PlayStation 5 exclusive. The final name, Stellar Blade, was revealed on September 13, 2022, after several years of development and updates to the combat system.
Stellar Blade was released on April 26, 2024, receiving an 82 score on Metacritic and selling more than one million copies by June. The game later received a crossover DLC with “NieR:Automata” from Square Enix in November 2024 and launched on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store in June 2025. In 2026, SHIFT UP confirmed development of the sequel Stellar Blade: Blood Rain.

What is Stellar Blade?
It is an action game in which players control a heroine fighting for humanity’s survival in a world beset by devastation. Armed with a sword and advanced technology, the protagonist confronts mysterious creatures that threaten the remnants of civilization. Players can expect fast-paced hack-and-slash battles, a well-thought-out sci-fi world, and an exciting plot centered on the struggle for the future in a post-apocalyptic setting.

From the game’s name and logo, many can guess what theme awaits players: something cosmic, intense, high-energy, and filled with high-speed battles.
Two elements immediately catch the attention of the Stellar Blade logo: the large letter “S” and the bright blue glow enveloping the entire composition. The lines of the letter “S” are soft and smooth, wrapping around the title and appearing as if drawn by a single swing of a blade, hence the “Blade” in the name. At the point where the letter touches the text, small particles scatter like sparks or fragments, enhancing the aggressive impression.
The text consists of two contrasting parts: the word “Stellar” is written in thin, elegant script, while “BLADE” is highlighted in a bold, massive italic font. The letters in the second word appear carved from a solid material, hinting at the game’s combat elements, where players will wield weapons and engage in dynamic battles.
An important detail is the glowing effect surrounding the symbol. It conveys a sense of modernity and futurism, emphasizing the game’s cosmic theme and technological setting. The cool blue hue, accented by white details, adds a fantastical and light atmosphere to the logo.
