WEG was connected with engineering from its earliest years. The company was founded on September 16, 1961, in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Its first name, “Eletromotores Jaraguá,” reflected its business profile. The brand produced electric motors in Jaraguá.
At the beginning were 3 people: electrician Werner Ricardo Voigt, administrator Eggon João da Silva, and mechanic Geraldo Werninghaus. Later, the first letters of their names were combined into the short name “WEG.” At first glance, it appears to be a technical abbreviation, but behind it lies the founders’ personal story.
The logo is built around the blue “WEG” inscription. The letters “W,” “E,” and “G” are almost connected into a single dense form. The name is enclosed in a shared frame, with the upper and lower lines resembling the letters’ continuations. The logo’s form carries the feel of industrial marking, drafting, and machinery.
