In the early months of 2015, the world was introduced to “Facebook at Work,” which was initially only available to select groups as part of a closed pilot project. However, in 2016, the platform underwent a name change, becoming Workplace by Facebook, and became available to organizations around the world. This revamped platform quickly caught the attention of global corporate giants such as Starbucks, Spotify, and Deloitte. Just one year after the rebranding, Workplace was already being actively used by over 1,000 organizations.
Beneath the surface, Workplace leveraged Facebook’s robust infrastructure and advanced machine learning algorithms to refine the news feed and generate customized offers for users. As the platform evolved, additional tools were included to enhance its utility: video calls, emergency safety checks, and seamless integration with popular tools like Microsoft Office.
Following a major rebranding by Facebook in 2021, Workplace changed its identity, being named Workplace by Meta. In 2022, the platform has more than 7 million subscribers. While the platform continues to expand its suite of enterprise-level collaboration and communication tools, its core purpose remains clear: to increase efficiency, spread knowledge, and connect those who are often on the move, such as frontline employees.
However, it’s worth noting that the enterprise communications software industry is not without competition. Big names like Microsoft Teams and Slack are formidable competitors. What sets Workplace apart, however, is the support from Meta’s vast resources and years of experience in human interaction.
