909 Festival Unveils New Logo and Brand Identity

909 Festival Logo New

909 Festival builds its image around the Roland TR-909 drum machine and the idea of music taking priority over noise. The Loveland Events festival appeared in Amsterdam in 2011 as a response to an overloaded electronic scene. It takes place in the Amsterdam Forest, in an open-air setting among the trees. Because of the location, club energy connects with the natural environment.

The new 909 logo was developed by the studio Smörgåsbord. It preserves the connection with the festival’s foundation, repetition, grid, order, and attention to music. The logo is closer to the mechanics of a sequencer, where the numbers stay in place and work within a shared beat.

909 Festival Logo Evolution

The mark is based on custom-made “909” numerals. The two nines are built from thin strokes, while the zero has a diagonal stroke. Because of this stroke, the logo no longer looks like an ordinary digital inscription. It connects with technology, club memory, and the legacy of the Roland TR-909. The numbers look dry, sharp, and almost technical. For a festival where sound remains the main focus, this kind of presentation is a precise fit.

The redesign strengthened the idea already built into the name. The old logo was also tied to the aesthetics of the electronic scene, but the new version feels more precise and calmer. The mark has become lighter and stricter. The diagonal in the zero adds tension, while the shape of the nines recalls a digital interface and hardware culture.

The identity continues the logo’s logic through a modular system inspired by the sequencer. The “909” numerals are used to create images through an ASCII interface. Data about the lineup, dates, and location is assembled into a 909 matrix. The visual system recalls the device’s screen, where sound turns into order, repetition, and impulse.

The logo is aimed at dancers, house listeners, and people in the electronic scene. For them, 909 means much more than the name of a drum machine. The new logo conveys a connection to club tradition. The three numbers have become a sign of order, scene memory, and attention to music.
