Cal Performances Unveils New Logo and Brand Identity

Cal Performances Logo New

For its 120th anniversary, Cal Performances updated its identity. The UC Berkeley organization began to look closer to a major performing arts venue. The new logo was introduced on April 28, 2026, together with the 2026-27 season. The program still includes different live performing arts formats, including music, dance, theater, jazz, chamber concerts, vocal performance, family events, and new stage projects.

Cal Performances has long operated in Berkeley as a place for world-class artists and encounters with audiences. The previous mark felt soft and campus-oriented. It included a sun symbol, light lettering, and colored labels for music, dance, and theater. The identity recalled a campus poster with different program areas.

After the update, the brand received a different tone. The logo introduced a large “CP” monogram, while the name became denser and bolder in its typesetting. The letters sit close together, so the mark recalls a poster, a theater bill, or a cultural center sign. The list of genres gave way to the feeling of an event.

The new emblem suits a venue where the hall, the artist, the audience, and the anticipation before the performance all carry weight. The tagline “Extraordinary. Fearless. Live.” supports the shift in tone. It moves the focus from a list of disciplines to live performance, the risk of the stage, and the viewer’s physical presence.

The color system changed as well. Tones of pink, purple, and dark brown replaced a light presentation with multicolored accents. Paired with the “CP” monogram, they make the Cal Performances image warmer, richer, and more theatrical. The identity is designed for audiences, artists, students, donors, and the community around UC Berkeley.

The mission of Cal Performances remains the same. The organization continues to introduce audiences to live performing arts and bring strong stage projects to Berkeley venues. The new logo feels more in line with the program’s level after 120 years of work. It reads as an entrance into an event where the stage, artists, ideas, and audience meet.
