Meaning and History

The future founders of the Anytime Fitness network met in the 1990s when they were still working as trainers and instructors at a sports center in St. Paul. They later joined forces and purchased the Southview Athletic Club, which they managed for seven years. In the early 2000s, the entrepreneurs devised their own fitness concept and decided to implement it in a new establishment. Thus, Chuck Runyon, Dave Mortensen, and Jeff Klinger became the pioneers of an innovative approach to recreational sports activities.

All buildings within the network have always displayed an original emblem in the form of a starting or running person. The figure is stylized and can represent anything – from running on rough terrain to working out on a treadmill. The key concept of the emblem is to give it your all, build up your body, and achieve the desired result, to which one must strive persistently. This determination is depicted in the unique symbol, complemented by text.

What is Anytime Fitness?

Anytime Fitness is a network of fitness clubs that provide their services 24 hours a day and operate year-round. The first establishment appeared in 2002 and has since grown into a large-scale franchise with centers in the USA and abroad. Self Esteem Brands now own it. The headquarters is located in Woodbury, Minnesota.

2002 – 2021

The Anytime Fitness logo of this period consists of a slim figure with four elements. They form the arms, legs, body, and head of an athlete. All the details of the emblem are arranged disproportionately (in different planes), thus vividly conveying the dynamics as if the person is in motion and truly performing some exercises.

The lines have both thickening and sharp ends to resemble the upper and lower limbs as closely as possible. For contrast, the drawing is colored purple. Behind it is the fitness club’s name, executed in a custom font. The letters are bold, curved, and wormlike, implying the body’s increased flexibility. The inscription occupies two rows and is aligned on both sides – right and left.

2021 – today

Designers updated the Anytime Fitness logo by thickening the lines. Therefore, the human figure is no longer skinny – it is strong and dense, reflecting the toned muscles of the arms and legs. The oval head has transformed into a round one, and the body has become much bulkier. The text part of the emblem has also changed significantly. A wormlike font, similar to NASA’s, has been replaced by another – less sinuous but still with rounded corners.

Another important detail: the two-level inscription is no longer crossed by white lines that indicate motion and speed. However, the fitness center network’s name hasn’t become less dynamic: the energy is embedded in the glyphs and the running person’s figure.

Font and Colors

The logo base consists of two similar-style typefaces. These include fonts reminiscent of F37 Moon by F37 Foundry and Laserian by Iconian Fonts, which had a thin crossing line running horizontally through each letter in the row. The updated Nulshock Bold is also used, with minor modifications. The capital “A” stands out: initially, it looked like the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet – delta. Then, it took on a standard form with a diagonally cut crossbar.

The base color of the Anytime Fitness emblem is purple. This choice is not random, as it reflects the high prestige of the wellness centers: the best establishments in the network are awarded the Club Purple status, which only 20% of fitness centers possess. The lavender color is well-balanced with monochrome: white serves as the background, while the text is painted black.
