Capicu: Brand overview

Capicu Latin Cuisine & Sports Bar was operating in Middletown, New York, by February 2022. The restaurant occupied 505 Schutt Road Extension, Suite 12, and Linda Herrera was publicly identified as a co-owner. Capicu combined Puerto Rican cooking with sports broadcasts and evening entertainment. Its name comes from a Caribbean domino term for a winning final move, linking the business to a game tied to Puerto Rican social life.

The early menu focused on Puerto Rican and Caribbean dishes such as mofongo, empanadas, ceviche, seafood, coconut shrimp, chicken wings, and grilled meat. Sangria, cocktails, and drinks made with Puerto Rican rum formed the bar program. During 2022, Capicu began promoting Friday and Saturday events with DJs, Latin music, themed parties, and holiday dinners.

By November 2022, Sunday brunch had become a recurring part of the schedule. The restaurant later added private bookings and catering for birthdays, weddings, family celebrations, and corporate gatherings. In May 2023, Herrera discussed rising food and operating costs in regional media, noting that groups had become more cautious about spending.

Capicu competed in Middletown with Casa Mia Latin Kitchen and Los Mocanos Restaurant. Casa Mia emphasized modern Latin dishes and cocktails, while Los Mocanos focused on Dominican and broader Latin American cooking. Capicu retained its original address and name while continuing brunches, music nights, catering, and private events.

Capicu Logo

The Capicu logo transports you into the atmosphere of Latin traditions, delicious cuisine, and the excitement of sports matches. The design carries the spirit of Puerto Rico without excess or pretense. It’s lively, vibrant, and welcoming.

The name is displayed in large, bold letters. They are dark blue with smooth curves and fluid lines, giving the logo a solid yet cozy feel. The letters are outlined in gray, adding depth and making them appear slightly raised. The best part? Instead of the letter “I,” there’s a domino tile that’s the real highlight. The domino is slightly tilted, and on its surface is a bright Puerto Rican flag with red and white stripes and a blue triangular section with a star. The flag emphasizes the venue’s national identity because “Capicu” is a Puerto Rican term for a winning domino move. When you place the final tile and win, you shout, “Capicu!” That’s where the name comes from: emotion, excitement, victory, and tradition.

The domino tile is crafted precisely, slightly leaning to the right, and features a single dot. Its rounded edges make it feel dynamic and engaging. It is painted in the colors of the Puerto Rican flag: a blue triangle with a white star and red-and-white stripes. The design represents both the domino game and the country’s heritage.

Capicu Symbol

Below the main name, the words “Latin Cuisine & Sports Bar” are written in red, using a handwritten-style font. The text is light and elegant, with a slight tilt, giving it a warm and personal touch. Two blue stars on either side of the phrase balance the composition. The red color was chosen intentionally to create contrast and evoke the passion, energy, and bold flavors of Latin American culture.

The emblem perfectly tells the brand’s story: It’s a bar where sports are celebrated, delicious food is served, and Puerto Rican traditions are honored. A place where people gather for great food and drinks, meet up for a game of dominoes, watch sports, and enjoy a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. This feeling is embedded in the logo without unnecessary complications or excessive decoration. It’s all clear: the domino, the flag, and the Latin American style that fits seamlessly into the life of American cities, where the bar has gained popularity.
