Stock trading requires an infrastructure capable of processing orders, executing trades, and recording data at high speeds. During periods of sharp market fluctuations, the system must maintain stable operation and ensure accurate transaction execution. The Cboe Global logo is associated with a company that operates trading platforms and provides tools for working with securities, derivatives, and other financial assets.

Cboe Global: Brand overview

Cboe Global Markets traces its origins to April 1973. During that period, a group of traders from the Chicago Board of Trade created the Chicago Board Options Exchange. It was the first centralized platform for options trading. On the first day, 911 contracts were concluded. By the end of the decade, the exchange had become the main center for options trading in the United States.

In 1983, CBOE developed the VIX volatility index. It became a global barometer of market sentiment. In 2004, VIX futures were introduced. In 2006, options on those futures appeared. This instrument became essential for risk management.

In 2010, CBOE was transformed into a corporation. The company held an IPO on Nasdaq and raised $ 300 million. By that time, it remained the largest options exchange in the United States.

In 2014, the company launched the first regulated bitcoin futures. In 2017, it acquired Bats Global Markets for $ 3.2 billion. This expanded its operations into the stock market and Europe. After the deal, the exchange was renamed Cboe Global Markets.

In 2019, the company discontinued bitcoin futures trading due to low demand. However, its technological infrastructure continued to develop. In 2022, the company acquired Chi-X Asia Pacific, gaining a presence in Australia and Japan.

In 2023, 0DTE options with daily expiration were launched. This led to an increase in the number of traders. In 2024, the company invested in blockchain-based solutions designed for digital assets.

The company operates the largest options exchange in the United States. It manages four stock exchanges and trading platforms in Europe and Asia. It provides services for trading stocks, options, and futures, as well as market data worldwide.

Before 2017, the CBOE identity was built around the four uppercase initials of Chicago Board Options Exchange. The exchange began operations on April 26, 1973, and became the world’s first marketplace for trading standardized options. The idea came from Chicago Board of Trade Vice Chairman Edmund O’Connor in 1969. He proposed moving options transactions from the over-the-counter market to a centralized exchange with shared rules. Over time, the abbreviation CBOE became the foundation of the company’s name and logo.

Until 2013, the exchange used a classic CBOE wordmark. In January 2013, the New York agency Stein + Partners Brand Activation developed a new corporate system. It included a logo, advertising campaign, and guidelines for corporate materials. The update presented CBOE as a leader in the options market and a technologically advanced exchange.

The logo consisted of the white letters CBOE inside a blue rectangle. The uppercase letters used a heavy sans-serif typeface resembling Helvetica Black or Impact. The rectangular shape conveyed order and referred to an organized trading venue.

A bright blue diagonal section appeared in the upper part of the blue field. It added depth to the flat form and separated the top surface from the main blue block.

2017 – today

The transition from CBOE to Cboe began after the acquisition of Bats Global Markets in February 2017. Following the transaction, the group expanded beyond the options market. Its structure now included stock and foreign exchange markets, ETF trading, and other asset classes. The former name, connected to Chicago Board Options Exchange, no longer reflected the international scale of the business.

CBOE Holdings was renamed Cboe Global Markets in October 2017. The first four letters preserved a connection with the historic name and began to function as a single word. The “C” remained uppercase, while “b,” “o,” and “e” became lowercase. The company adopted the pronunciation “See-bo” instead of reading the letters individually as “C-B-O-E.”

The name Cboe uses a sans-serif typeface. Dark blue unites the letters into a compact wordmark. The mixed case distinguishes the new name from the previous CBOE version. It makes it easier to read as a complete company name.

Three green squares rotated 45 degrees appear above the letter “C.” The rotation makes them resemble small diamonds. Green separates the upper section from the dark blue wordmark.
