The Content Warning logo prompts players to consider the surprises awaiting them underwater. In the ruins of the sunken city, not only are valuable artifacts hidden, but dangerous monsters are as well, which can interfere with completing the mission. Therefore, the emblem creates a sense of anxiety justified by the survival horror genre.

Content Warning: Brand overview

Content Warning grew out of Landfall Games, a Stockholm studio founded in 2015 by developers who began making games at school. Earlier releases included Air Brawl (2014), Clustertruck (2016), Stick Fight: The Game, and Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. Landfall later made April 1 a recurring launch date, using it for Totally Accurate Battlegrounds in 2018.

Development began in February 2024 during a one-month internal game jam in Seoul. The five-person team included Zorro Svärdendahl, Erik Skoog, Filip Westré, Wilhelm Nylund and Petter Henriksson. They built a cooperative horror game around filming monsters and uploading footage to the fictional SpöökTube service.

Content Warning launched on Steam on April 1, 2024, and was free for 24 hours. During that period, 6.6 million users claimed it, while concurrent players peaked at 204,439 after the price changed to $7.99, with about 700,000 copies sold in the first week. Comparisons followed with Lethal Company and Phasmophobia, though the main task involved recording frightening footage rather than collecting scrap or investigating ghosts.

By June 2024, sales reached 2.2 million copies and total ownership stood at 8.8 million. A November 2025 update added 48 achievements, lobby codes, monster fixes, and performance improvements. On April 1, 2026, the game launched on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch for $9.99, with cross-platform play. The PC version expanded to the Microsoft Store and received Steam Deck verification.

What is Content Warning?

This is a horror video game where players explore abandoned locations using a handheld camera. The game combines survival and psychological horror elements, immersing players in paranormal events. Players gather clues, uncover the history of the locations, and encounter ghostly entities. Its unique recording mechanics and limited resources create a tense, gripping gameplay experience reminiscent of found-footage films.

The Content Warning logo conveys the essence of the game. The square frame of black corners resembles a viewfinder, as the players’ task is to dive underwater with a video camera and film anything that seems strange or unusual. The large yellow eye in the center indicates that all recorded footage is intended for an audience to evaluate and pay for.

The choice of color evokes a sense of the supernatural. The yellow eye with a vertical pupil hints at mysterious and eerie creatures dwelling underwater. This suggests that players are not simply capturing scenery but predatory monsters and rare artifacts. The exclamation mark inside the eye signifies the mission’s danger: divers have limited oxygen supplies, and the ruins are filled with traps at every turn. Not all four players diving into the unexplored depths may return to the surface.

The emblem is designed in a simple geometric style, emphasizing the seriousness of the events. The square frame with the eye symbolizes the filming process and implies that the operators are objects of observation. It creates the impression of a “view through the lens,” as if an unknown monster has already noticed it is being watched.

Beneath the graphic symbol is the black inscription “CONTENT WARNING,” split into two lines. The designers chose a massive, bold font to make the brand name appear imposing. At the same time, the corners of the letters are softened, conveying the fluidity of water, as much of the game takes place in an underwater city beneath an island. The black color evokes a sense of mystery, intrigue, and unseen danger.
