Dentistry is one of the branches of medicine that specializes in the treatment of teeth, the features of their structure and functioning, and diseases that can occur in humans. In addition, dentistry can deal with preventing and treating the oral cavity. The main element of the emblem of dentistry, generally accepted in the world, is a snake. In ancient Greece, this particular creature was associated with health. The remaining elements also reflect the development of this branch of medicine.

Meaning and History

Dental Symbol

The current version of the Dental logo appeared in 1965. It was introduced during the convention of the American Dental Association. After that, only minimal changes were made that did not change the very essence of the logo. The logo itself is an emblem with a lot of elements. The central part is the so-called rod of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. Visually, it resembles a spear. A snake is wrapped around him. This creature was not chosen by chance because it was with its help that the ancient Greeks performed various healing rituals.

Moreover, snakes were also mentioned in the Old Testament in the Bible. They were depicted there as a symbol of health and prosperity. As a result, it is not surprising that dentists use a snake in their emblem.

What is Dental?

It is one of the most important branches of medicine. Millions of medical institutions around the world provide dental services to their clients. Almost everyone has visited a dentist at least once in their life. The Dental logo in various color variations can be seen in almost any hospital, even more so in special departments involved in dental treatment.

Behind the main image are also 20 berries and 32 leaves. Interestingly, these elements also symbolize dentistry, namely the number of milk and permanent teeth in a person’s mouth.

The Dental logo has two frames, one triangular and one round. At the same time, the triangle is a letter of the Greek alphabet, namely Delta, which is also a symbol of dentistry. The round frame is also a reference, as it is the first letter in the word “odont,” which can be translated as “tooth.” Both frames are in contact with each other, which creates a sense of three-dimensionality and magic.

In general, the logo is used in various colors, depending on the surface on which it is displayed. At the bottom, as a rule, “Dentistry” is also written. The word is written in classic bold sans-serif using capital letters on a circular frame.

Font and Colors

Dental Emblem

The main emphasis in the logo of dentistry is on the image and symbols. However, there is also an additional inscription, “Dentistry.” It is made in a classic sans-serif typeface. As a result, it looks official, only confirming the medical nature of the Dental logo.

There is no specific color palette in the emblem of dentistry. Different institutions use different gamuts of colors, considering the surface where it is depicted. Consequently, the logo can be presented in various shades, which directly indicates its relevance to most world countries. Dentistry is the foundation of healthy teeth and the well-being of millions of people. Almost every person has seen this emblem and can clearly say that it is related to medicine.
