Great West Conference: Brand overview

The Great West Conference was founded in 2004 as an association of football teams from the western United States at the NCAA Division I-AA level (now FCS). The initial members included Cal Poly, UC Davis, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, and Southern Utah. In 2006, the University of South Dakota joined the league, expanding the geographic range of the tournaments.

In 2008, the conference ceased being exclusively football-focused and began holding competitions in 13 additional sports, including basketball, baseball, and track and field. This led to the inclusion of new members, such as Chicago State, Houston Baptist, NJIT, Utah Valley, and Texas-Pan American.

However, in 2011, most of the founding universities moved to other conferences, leading to the discontinuation of the football championship. The remaining members also received invitations to join other NCAA leagues, and the conference officially ended in 2013. Despite its brief period of activity, the league played a significant role in developing collegiate sports in the western United States.

The composition of collegiate teams is constantly changing, reflecting the arrival and departure of students, making the logo a representation of an ongoing process. The white base highlights innovation, the introduction of new approaches, the use of modern techniques, and the emergence of leaders.

Despite continuous transformations, the high standards for admitting new members remain unchanged. The primary criterion is the development and support of athletic programs within universities. The blue background conveys the professionalism that underpins the association’s activities.

The bold, dark red letters emphasize the prestige of the conference and the achievements of its participants competing at the Division I level, to which teams aspire. The upward tilt of the letters underscores the pursuit of leadership and growth.
