Originating from the Hefei Jianghuai Automobile Factory, established in 1964, JAC Motors initially ventured into the commercial truck segment. Fast forward to 1999, a significant transformation occurred when the company transitioned into Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd, signaling its foray into the passenger car market.

The early 2000s marked a period of innovation for the brand by introducing the JAC Junjie FRV, their inaugural self-conceived car model. This stride paved the way for future sedan creations, including the notable JAC Refine and Binyue. By 2009, a rebranding was in order, leading the firm to adopt the name Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd. This period also saw the initiation of strategic alliances with international giants such as Volkswagen, aimed at enhancing their technical prowess.

Entering a new decade, JAC Motors boasted an impressive annual manufacturing output, surpassing the 500,000-vehicle mark by 2010. Their SUVs and pickup trucks, in particular, garnered considerable attention in the domestic sphere. A significant milestone occurred in 2013 when Anhui Jianghuai Automobile integrated with the state-owned JAC Motors, adopting its name and brand image.

In the contemporary scenario, JAC Motors is a formidable entity, with an annual production of over 700,000 vehicles spanning numerous facilities within China. Their extensive portfolio encompasses passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and an emerging emphasis on new energy vehicles. Moreover, their collaborative endeavors with international powerhouses such as Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, and Volkswagen have solidified their global outreach, with their automotive offerings now gracing regions like Southeast Asia, South America, Russia, and Africa.
