Cleanliness, freshness, light, that’s what the Llumar logo stands for. And this light is completely safe because the films the company produces protect surfaces from ultraviolet radiation. In addition, the logo represents the material’s environmental friendliness and its design perfection.
LLumar’s history began in 1956 in Collinsville, Virginia, when inventor Julius Hermes and Burness Frith founded Martin Processing. The company first worked with dyeing polyester fiber and other textile materials. Hermes built a strong technical base in polymer processing and received 17 patents. In 1960, he patented a method for deep-dyeing polyester film based on PET, and in 1961, a new plant opened in Fieldale, near Martinsville.
Hermes became known as the “father of dyed PET,” the material behind many modern window films. In the 1970s, the U.S. carpet industry declined, cutting demand for Martin Processing’s textile work. The company shifted toward plastic film products, using its experience with polyester film treatment. This move laid the technical foundation for future LLumar window films.
In 1987, Martin Processing was acquired by the British industrial group Courtaulds. In 1988, Courtaulds bought a California plant, closed it, and moved equipment to Martinsville. In 1989, it acquired Gila River Products, which was later shut down in 1992. In 1995, Commonwealth Laminating and Coating was founded in Martinsville, strengthening the local film-production base.
In 1999, Solutia bought CPFilms from Courtaulds, along with the Fieldale plant and the LLumar brand. Solutia’s film portfolio included LLumar, Huper Optik, and V-Kool. After financial problems in 2003, production in Martinsville continued. In 2012, Eastman Chemical agreed to buy Solutia for about $4.7 billion, gaining LLumar and the Martinsville operation. By 2014, Commonwealth Laminating and Coating was integrated into Eastman Performance Films. LLumar now competes with 3M and Avery Dennison in the architectural and automotive film markets.
Meaning and History
A modern, progressive logo defines the brand’s visual identity. It has remained virtually unchanged since the company’s founding, which is why millions of Llumar film buyers worldwide have come to recognize this version of the logo.
Today, it consists of a word inscription and an emblem located on top. If we talk about the company name, it is in black. A classic bold sans-serif font was used. The first two letters were in uppercase, while the rest of the characters were in lowercase. The significant distance between the letters makes the logo more powerful and authoritative, helping it stand out from the competition. In general, although a traditional font is used, some letters have a unique style. For example, the circle in the letter “a” is quite narrow, which immediately catches the eye when reading the logo.
What is Llumar?
It is one of the world’s largest brands in the production of films for interiors and cars. Every year, the company’s client base grows, and its market status becomes more stable.
A stylized sun is used as an emblem. This is a red semicircle at the bottom of which there is an arcuate line. Five undulating bands extend from it at the same distance from each other, which should be associated with the sun. The company chose an extremely interesting emblem because it does not give a clear idea of what Llumar produces. At the same time, you can immediately see that the product is designed to protect against the Sun’s harmful effects. Also, you might think this is how people see the sun through the film the presenting company produces. After all, the rays displayed on the emblem do carry no danger to humans. As a result, this element of the logo indicates the benefits that customers of this company receive.
Font and Colors
A somewhat elongated font is used for the word inscription, which, despite this, is easy to read on any surface. Moreover, the company tried to stand out from the competition by the fact that the first two “L” are made in capital letters when all other characters are lowercase.
The red-white-black color palette was not chosen by chance. This set of colors can be associated with the sun and its rays, as well as with protection from their harmful effects. In addition, the color red is often a symbol of passion and the desire to develop, and these are the tasks that the Llumar brand sets for itself.
